How Students Can Identify and Evaluate Their Beliefs
“Walk through any school at any time of day and you will overhear casual comments in which students disparage others. The beliefs underlying these words limit possibilities for our students and the people in their community. Part of teaching is to push students to metacognition: not just knowing what they know but examining how they know it and whether they need/want to learn more. Daily opportunities to identify, discuss, and evaluate their beliefs help our students to recognize their power and to grow as human beings (Hass, 2020). When we create opportunities for students to challenge their underlying beliefs, we affect not only how our students view the world but how they live in it.” Chris Hass
