STEAM Storytelling
Facts and data might seem disconnected from storytelling, but consider how understandings in science change. For example, until the 19th century, scientists believed that a living creature, like a mouse, could spontaneously emerge from non-living matter -- river mud. A fact -- that mice populations suddenly and dramatically increased in cooler seasons -- was placed within a story, an hypothesis -- that living creatures could appear from non-living matter. The fact was true; the story wasn't. Storytelling in STEAM needs to be an active, public form that can be challenged and revised towards greater accuracy over time. N4 STEAM Storytelling invites students to use STEAM tools to tell their own stories, investigate and solve problems.
