Facts and data might seem disconnected from storytelling, but consider how understandings in science change. For example, until the 19th century, scientists believed that a living creature, like a mouse, could spontaneously emerge from non-living matter -- river mud. A fact -- that mice populations suddenly and dramatically increased in cooler seasons -- was placed within a story, an hypothesis -- that living creatures could appear from non-living matter. The fact was true; the story wasn't. Storytelling in STEAM needs to be an active, public form that can be challenged and revised towards greater accuracy over time.
