Advocacy Proposal
‘In June of 1944, America executed its youngest person ever, George Stinney, who at just fourteen-years-old was convicted of the murder of two little girls in Alcolu, South Carolina. In October of 2013, a group of students sat in my classroom reading about the reopening of the case after charges surfaced that mistakes were made in the case. One particular young man sitting in the back of the room raised his hand and asked, “what are we going to do about this Mrs. Walker?”
In that instant I knew my teaching could and would change.’ Nicole Walker
