How Observation Inspires Art

“I named my musical piece “The Minbar of Saladin” after a chapter in Apeirogon, which, in turn, is named after the intricately carved 11th century pulpit in the Al Aqsa Mosque . In 1969, an arsonist destroyed the Minbar of Saladin. Over the course of 30 years, artisans painstakingly rebuilt the pulpit. For me, the beauty of that pulpit, the story of its destruction, and the commitment to its reconstruction are a testament to human creativity and determination. The music arrived to me in stages.” Colm Mac Con Iomaire
